how to plan a staycation.

we had a good weekend you guys.if you remember from my post earlier this month, we were not able to plan a weekend away due to airlines being idiots charging too much for tickets. so we decided to plan a mini staycation in town to pretend like we were getting away. and with just a bit of planning and almost no lead time, it was awesome. (grandpa and grandma had little miss for a sleepover, so she had just as much fun as we did, i'm sure! also, spoiler, my phone died immediately and so i have two photos. two. such an epic fail.) i'm really on board with this staycation thing now. i hope this post gives you some inspiration to plan your own!staycationfirst step, a special event: a mn wild hockey game. Mister Man and i love us some hockey. he still plays pretty regularly on what i affectionately call an "old man's league", and our first date was actually at a wild game, way back in 2009. we don't get a chance to go very often, so it's a special event whenever we go. i feel like if you're going to plan a staycation, you have to have some kind of event to go to, to make it different from a regular date night out for dinner and drinks. the wild happened to have a home game this weekend, so a wild game it was for us! bonus: they won!wild game

next step, a fancy dinner: pazzaluna restaurant. delicious food (ohmahgah risotto from heaven!), delicious wine, delicious company (gross, sorry). as i'm writing this, i'm just now starting to realize how special this staycation actually was. everything we did had a special meaning to us. this restaurant was the first "fancy" date we ever went on. i had a terrible day at work, and he picked me up and said we were going to have a nice dinner instead of pizza like we planned, and he took me to pazzaluna on a whim. i made him have the "what are we" talk during dinner, which he hated, but bless his heart, participated in fully. we were "official" from then on. i credit that dinner to us staying together later when he moved to iowa.final step: hotel stay: the st. paul hotel. another fun connection for us...we got married here! geez, this staycation was like a progressive dinner of our relationship. we got to feel all fancy for a night, go to church in the city in the morning, and enjoy brunch in the same restaurant where we ate the morning after we got married. there were a lot of cozy, nostalgic feelings happening and it was fantastic.st. paul

so there you have it! the recipe for a great staycation. i highly recommend it to anyone who wants to getaway from life for a little bit, but maybe doesn't have the time or the money to get far away. every city has its fun things to do, and it's a great opportunity to try something you haven't before. i'd love to sneak away to southern minnesota sometime to explore down there, or even just check out some of the museum events that happen around the cities from time to time. oooh, or a cooking class! i'm getting so many ideas. hopefully this post gives you a little inspiration for a staycation where you live. and if you're from minnesota, here are some more ideas for activities around the twin cities if you're looking!
